My Students
My students are amazing kids who face many challenges both at home and at school. My students all have various disabilities, but they don't let their disabilities hold them back.
All of my students are unique, but one thing is the same in each of them: they love to learn!
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and face many challenges before even entering our school. We work together every day to overcome those challenges and reach new heights. I work with about 100 special education students every week, reaching kids with various disabilities. My students love to move, explore and play.
My Project
My students work hard to learn all sorts of things every day, but at the end of the day, my biggest goal for each of my students with disabilities is a fulfilling life beyond school. One of the biggest barriers to this, for my students with autism especially, is their difficulty with socialization and making friends. This school year we are expanding our Peer to Peer program that has paired my students with disabilities with general education buddies who model typical behavior and independence throughout the school day. Our program is in full swing and the friendships are blossoming! This program has allowed my students with autism to grow in ways I couldn't have ever imagined, but their general education peers have grown as well!
In the past, my students with disabilities, and their general education peers, didn't have a chance to get to know each other and experience the amazing qualities of each other.
This program has helped foster friendships and we need your help to continue! We meet weekly, both general education and special education students together, to get to know each other through various activities. Some of the best interactions are during our shared snack time! We need your help to re-supply our snack cabinet. We love juice drinks and all sorts of snacks as well as games to play with each other. Your help will support friendships between some absolutely amazing kiddos!
