Fostering Collaboration

Help me give my students a place to work cooperatively. The table I currently have is made up of two giant tables that don’t meet up. Students constantly struggle to sit at the table.

My Project

It is so important for students to be involved in academic discourse. By asking questions and giving suggestions students expand on their learning. Students are able to explain their strategies, add onto two explanations, and respectfully agree or disagree with each other. Right now in my classroom, I have two mismatched giant tables that I use for student collaboration. Students have to climb around bookcases in order to fit at the table. Once at the table, they are sitting at all different height levels due to the tables not being able to be adjusted. They do not match up. This also makes students unable to share materials effectively. Having a table that will fit in my classroom space, that students can sit comfortably around, at the same height would help tremendously. I know this is an expensive piece of furniture, but it will last for a long time! It will not only benefit the students I have this year, but in all the years to come.
