My students were so excited to receive new clean yoga mats. Our old ones were well used and falling apart. We have been trying very hard to keep them clean and like new. We use our yoga mats all day long. We have been using them to define personal space when we do our Morning Meeting and all of our lessons. They also help us to feel more comfortable when we are sitting on the hard floor. We enjoy using them for our singing and movement breaks. Our favorite thing is to use them for yoga and relaxation breaks through out the day. You should see their great yoga poses. We are getting stronger every day. Thank you for caring about my students. They allow for alternate seating for young learners when expected to sit on the rug for class meetings, music classes, and library. Sitting in an area that is open, without clear boundaries is difficult for some children, the cube not only provides support it also allows for a sense of security.\r\n The library cube chair is used by multiple students throughout the school day. The chair sets a boundary for students who need an additional understanding of where they are supposed to sit. It allows for trunk and back support as well as the sides give a sense of security. The same applies to the music classroom. \r\n Cube chairs are also being used in the kindergarten classroom for rug time and as an alternate workspace which allows children to kneel give their bodies more sensory input which encourages greater attention and focus. Overall, the cube chairs have been a great success for children at Spencer School. I know it seems silly because it is such a basic need in the classroom, but we have always struggled to have pencils available. Not only are they a relaxing activity, students also enjoy earning time to do them after working hard. When students come into my office they often enjoy having something to fidget with while we talk. They are liking the magnetic fidget item very much- it can make it easier for students to engage in counseling and talk about different things when they have something to do with their hands. The plastic boxes are the perfect size for calm down boxes.
