Sixth grade students need to fall in love with reading again! I work in a Title I school with a very diverse classroom.

We have a high English Language Learner population and many students struggle to find any interest in reading for pleasure. They have been forced to read rather uninteresting expository text to prepare them for state assessments. As a result, many of them have a negative view of reading in general. One of the best ways to help students overcome this obstacle is to introduce exciting chapter books that the teacher can then use to teach all the same comprehension skills. It also creates an opportunity for students to discuss books in a literature circle type environment.

I am asking for a classroom set (30) copies of the book, "The Egypt Game." I plan to have students participate in a classroom blog that allows them to voice their thoughts on the Internet in a safe environment. Not only will they be motivated to read, but they will have the chance to practice their writing skills!

Your help will make it possible for me to introduce stimulating literature into students' lives and foster a much needed love of reading!
