My Students

My second graders have enjoyed learning about science and social studies topics by reading non-fiction texts. They are a curious group of students, always ready to learn something new.

My goal as their teacher, is to combine their curiosity with a love of reading.

This group of students loves to ask questions and then dive into a book to find the answer. Our school’s poverty rate is 46%, so funding is often nonexistent to purchase resources to support their love of learning.

My Project

This is my first year teaching reading to elementary students; therefore, I do not have a large classroom library. It currently consists mostly of fiction chapter books and picture books.

My goal is to provide quality nonfiction books to help foster a love of reading in all of my students.

These books will not only support my second grade curriculum, but it will help students find new a genre they enjoy reading.

I truly believe these books will get students excited about reading informational topics, while helping them dive into analyzing non-fiction text. Those skills will help them in the years ahead.
