Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The moment my students walk through my classroom door, they are ready to get to work. I say, "Are you ready to rock?" and they respond with, "Ready to roll!" I expect nothing but the best from them, and I strive to be the best teacher and provide the best classroom environment I can.
My school serves Latino, Polynesian, and African-American students who live in deep poverty.
These are amazing students, full of life and character, who deserve nothing but the best. Most live in unfortunate situations at home; therefore, the classroom must be anything but unfortunate. I strive to make sure my students have all that they need to be successful in their academics.
My Project
My students are learning yummy, simple, quick, and healthy recipes in the classroom for snacks and lunch meals when they get the munchies at home. It's a shame how many disposable plates and plastic forks we are contributing to our already mountains of school trash.
In an effort to "go green" I am hoping to get some durable chip and break resistant dinner plates and forks that we can use and reuse, time and time again, for our cooking lessons, hence reducing our trash impact.
The students and I will be able to use these plates to prep our ingredients and to also hold our prepared food to relish and enjoy our final product! Additionally, the students will not only be learning and having fun in making these yummy meals but will also learn to have "fun" when it's time to clean up and wash the dishes. What an awesome way to teach them a healthy responsible skill of cooking and cleaning for oneself. At the same time, we will not be adding anymore plates or plastic forks to our landfill.
