Help me give my students a way to sharpen their pencils and print out their work. An electric pencil sharpener will allow them to focus on working rather than focus on trying to get their pencils actually sharp.
This is my first year teaching at this school since I moved to Cary, N.C. in August. Most people are aghast when they hear I teach 7th grade, as they consider it one of the toughest ages. I consider my middle schoolers as the best age to teach. They are young enough to still be full of curiosity and love doing hands-on activities, but old enough to recognize patterns and understand greater concepts.
My classes are diverse.
I have a wide variety of learning abilities represented in each of my classes. I have found that this has improved the learning of all my students as struggling students continually rise to each challenge as my higher-level learners push the envelope. The cultural diversity has only contributed to the success of my social studies class as I have students whose families are from the countries we learn about including Somalia, Mexico, Honduras, Philippines, Gambia, Palestine, Ukraine, and many more.
My students are the reason why I teach. I love seeing their interest build as I share the subject that I am most passionate about. With your help, I hope to ensure that my students' needs are met so that they are successful.
An electric pencil sharpener seems like a small gift, but it makes a huge difference in the classroom. Students no longer have to beg others for a pencil after they failed to sharpen their own manually due to old, inefficient equipment. So much time is wasted on trying to get pencils sharpened to the point that many students cannot begin work until minutes after the activity began.
Copy paper is important for our assignments.
I use it to print out original copies in order to use the copier. Students use it to print out their work. We also can use it for activities like brochures, posters, and foldables. As the county's copy budget significantly decreases, so does the availability of common copy paper in the classroom.
