My students need new fiction books (Hunger Games trilogy, Twighlight series, "Uglies," "Bruiser," and more) in the classroom to foster the LOVE of Reading. Unfortunately reading for students in the 7th grade is not something they LOVE to do.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr. Seuss. My dream is to foster the LOVE of reading for my 7th grade students and give them the opportunity to realize the wonderful benefits to reading for leisure.

My students are 12 to 13 years old, they are your typical teenager, they think they know everything yet still want your approval.

The majority of my students are first generation Americans, most of them have parents at home that do not speak our language. I believe that most of my students were not raised being read to on a daily basis. No one has ever stressed the importance of reading to them. I want to change this, I want to create a positive connotation with regards to reading. I fear my students struggle with our language and therefore they have no desire to read. I want to create a buzz about reading and by having an in class library I will be able to directly talk about the books that I have enjoyed reading and share the book with my students. I want my students to understand the importance of reading now because I know it will benefit them in the long run.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting are books for a classroom library. Our school library is shared with the entire student body, the books that are current tend to always be on a wait list and my students are frustrated when these books are constantly not available to them. I am hoping that with a classroom library my own students will have to wait less time to get a book of their choice and that will also encourage them to read on a more regular basis. I am a believer that the more my students read the more they will learn.

This project is so important because I truly believe that the more my students read the more they will know and the more places they will go.

I want my students to have opportunities that I believe only reading can offer them.
