Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th grade students are part of a low-income, diverse, hardworking school. They come in every day eager to learn in the midst of it all. My students come from different backgrounds and know various rich languages.

My students are a group of diverse and resilient individuals who are doing their best to live and learn through this pandemic.

They understand that we may have some setbacks but they have growth mindsets that keep them striving for success. They rise to challenges while rooting for one another. Our classroom is a safe space where students teach one another about their heritage and culture creating deeper respect among each other.

My Project

I have 32 diverse students who attend a low-income, diverse school. This project will allow me to introduce new and exciting books that we will read as a whole class and at home.

We will turn this into a book study experience where students can find their passion for reading!

Reading together as a whole class allows me to model reading with expression and gives students an opportunity to practice immediately.

I have selected sets of diverse books for my class. My students come from various backgrounds, and being able to see themselves as main characters in stories is critical. Relating to stories leads to deeper connections and comprehension which is a life skill I'd like all my students to have. Reading diverse books will also teach students to accept and appreciate each other.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
