My students are high school students who are enrolled in the Cambridge Academy at EHS. The Cambridge Academy is an innovative and accelerated method of academic study offered through the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England. This program provides a flexible, broad-based curriculum that prepares students for college. College credit is granted for passing the Cambridge end-of-course exams, and the highest Bright Futures Scholarship is awarded to students who earn the AICE diploma.
Due to lack of funding, our program is in need of print resources that will assist these students in learning the material more effectively.
My students at EHS are some of the best kids that I have ever encountered during my teaching career. I would love to be able to provide the materials that will help my students achieve their goal of a Cambridge diploma.
My Project
For the end-of-course exam, Cambridge Literature students will need to be exposed to and have studied specific texts from the syllabus. The students will need to analyze three types of genres - poetry, prose, and drama. The texts cover a wide-range of time periods, authors, and cultures. For each of these genres, students will need to dissect and discuss the critical context of each text. At this point, only the initial Cambridge Literature class will receive these benefits. However, these texts will be utilized in subsequent school years as the program grows.
These books will allow the students the opportunity to annotate important aspects of the text, help with their discussions of complex literature, and will support their review of the material prior to completing their end-of-course examination.
Access to these texts through the Cambridge program will produce students who can communicate effectively and possess cultural literacy.
