My Students

I work in a lower-income school with lots of diverse backgrounds. I have 18 students, but started at 21, lost 5, and gained 2. Our world is sometimes chaotic...even though we have to be flexible I would never change anything about my classroom or who I share it with.

I have the most empathetic, genuine, and sensitive first graders I've ever had.

They are accepting of everyone in our class and I catch moments of kindness from each of them every day. I can't keep up with the kudos and shout outs! They truly CARE about each other and if they learn nothing else, I would be happy with that. On top of being loving to each other, me, and guests to our classroom- they are determined.

They are curious, driven, motivated, and excited when I introduce a new topic. We have done research on the ocean, States of Matter, and Outer space {more to come!} I've introduced more science than our standards cover, and they CRAVE it. We have had hermit crabs, guinea pig visitors, and a classroom transformed into the ocean itself- I want to continue this love of learning!

My Project

I have so much debt from buying things for my students and our classroom. I don't regret any of it, but it would be nice to be able to afford a classroom that students can thrive in (I know...but a teacher can dream!) There are a few items we are still missing and I'm hoping with a little support, we can get a few essentials in our room.

I am asking for help in creating a space conducive for learning & in doing so helping my students soar!

The Student mailbox is so essential, right now we have a file system, but in first grade, our fine motor skills aren't perfect so we often get frustrated! I want to build independence instead of always putting papers away for them, as they feel defeated! It may seem like a silly wish list item, but a mailbox will truly help our classroom function at its highest potential! Next, I believe in learning comfortably and that is why I have flexible seating options in my classroom. The wobble seats are a fabulous flex seating option that I just can't afford on my own. They allow younger students to get wiggles out by bouncing up and down and rocking sideways- these are safer than the typical wobble stool & I have seen great things from others who have them!
