Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school students are amazing! Even though they face many challenges due to the high poverty rates, food insecurity, and lack of English language proficiency, they still maintain the desire to learn. They are active and growing young learners with lots of hopes and dreams. By giving them the proper support and caring learning environment, all students are learning and growing, regardless of their individual situations.

With an environment that promotes inclusion, equity, and kindness, my students will feel safe and better prepared to learn.

My students love being part of our small, Title I funded school community, because it's a place where they can feel important, comfortable, and have fun!

My Project

Our PE standards call for students to practice a variety of exercises to teach students about having physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Right now, I just have different types of balls and I would love to add resistance bands and some games for the winter days in which we can't go outside for PE.

It is my mission that by the end of the year, students will be on a path to a love of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

The resistance bands will be used to exercise in new and exciting ways to get physically fit. The Phase 10 games and score cards will be used on those cold and windy days when it is better to stay indoors. Snacks and Starbucks gift cards will be used as rewards for good sportsmanship and teamwork. Incentives can be a great way to boost student's self-esteem, encourage positive behavior, motivate students to participate in all activities, and reward students for all of their hard work during the week. I believe that encouraging students to make good choices includes providing rewards they can enjoy, in addition to other rewards and praise.
