My students need fruit snacks to hold over their hunger while they are receiving enhanced math and reading instruction in tutoring. The jolly ranchers will hold them over in their last hour of learning.

I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district. My students face several challenges both in and out of the classroom on a daily basis. Even though these students face the hardships they do; they are energized, intelligent ordinary teenagers who are eager to learn.
I believe student success is the door to our future, and their eagerness to learn is the key that opens that door.
Their eagerness is sometimes dampened by the growl of their stomach at 3:30 when they stay for tutoring. Many of our students are two grade levels below in math and reading and need to stay for tutoring, but the lack of snacks prevents them from doing so. For reasons beyond their control they eat lunch at 11 A.M and they do not get home until 6:00 if they stay for tutoring. This is 7 hours without eating and when they are hungry; they cannot concentrate on learning.
If their stomach has a snack to hold them over; they will definitely be able to achieve and raise their grade levels in math and reading and go on to be successful in their future.
Students who strive to receive extra help will not have to worry about waiting 7 hours to eat. They will have fruit snacks to eat after school and water to drink. This will allow their mind to open up and receive the tutoring they need.
While filling up their belly they will fill up their mind with knowledge.
This small benefit of receiving a snack will relieve their minds and allow them to have one less worry in their life. Many of them live below the poverty line, and have many other worries. I hope I can relieve this one worry from their mind.
