My Students
"Small but mighty," is a saying that could be used to describe my students. Although we are a small rural school we have a mighty presence in the State and National FFA stage, especially in the Science and Agriscience Fair competitions, as well as, community service projects.
My Agriculture students are very interested in community service and love hands-on learning.
They excel at approaching problems within the community and trying to help improve that problem. Much of that improvement is made using hands-on learning. They love to do experiments to better their community, state, and world. Covid-19 has greatly impacted my students' ability to perform any hands-on learning.
My Project
Quapaw is a small rural community of 816 residents. Of those residents, 23.7% live under the poverty line. In the Quapaw School System, 63.7% of students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Covid-19 was very detrimental, mentally and physically, to students who rely on the school for at least one good meal each day.
In this project, Food Security, Secured, my goal is to educate students about alternate ways of preparing nutritious food that won't spoil rapidly and can be widely available.
Students will be able to slice, dehydrate, and store meats, fruits, and vegetables.
