Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students have risen from many obstacles in life to get to this point. They are in a school that is still trying to recover from Hurricane Harvey. They are in a place where they are striving to do what is right, despite the constant pulls in the opposite direction. These students are eager to find personal successes and share them with those around them.
These students this school year will be able to show what they learn through engagement in everyday tasks.
What they accomplish this year will benefit them for the rest of their life.
My Project
The government shutdown was initially reported to impact food stamps, and still might if it continues into March. However, this concern was the cause of creating a food pantry in our school. We had emergency assistance for Harvey and never replenished.
It is time to build a more permanent food pantry for emergencies and for our students who always stand in need of more food.
Our school provides free lunch for everyone for 3 meals, but that doesn't mean that their family is fed.
By helping provide these shelves, our students can have a safe place to store some of the food that is collected.
