My Project

Children with special needs have all kinds of sensory issues. This includes issues with food. Daily I deal with the fact that some of my kids will not eat for a variety of reasons. The food maybe too gritty. The food maybe too chunky. The food may not be sweet enough. The list goes on and on with reasons why they may not eat the food option that the school provides.

Everyone should be allowed to eat what they like cause how can you learn on an empty belly.

Instead of saying they can eat or do without, I like to offer the kids the chance to eat things that they like. I always expect them to give the option that they have for lunch a try. After offering several opportunities to eat the lunch provided, I give them an alternative food choice. We try to keep a well stocked cabinet of not only snacks but also actual food alternatives. This lets me know that they are eating more than just junk. A local church works to help us keep it stocked but there are times it is hard to get different things that we know they like. They are very good at helping keep sides in our cabinet but protein can be hard. Especially finding the things that we know they like. This is a collection of things I know they like and will eat. This allows me to know that they will leave me at the end of the day with a full tummy.
