This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Educating the mind without the heart is no education at all." ~ Aristotle
In my preK3/4 inclusion classroom, I strive every day to teach my students how to play and learn together and how to be critical thinkers.
My preK classroom is in a Title I school that includes students from across Washington, D.C.
As a preK teacher, each day I strive to inspire my students to love learning, whether it is reading, writing, mathematics, or social-emotional skills such as how to take turns!
Many of my students come from low-income families and all my students qualify for free lunch and breakfast every day. Some do not have stable housing or are homeless. Many have never been in a school setting before and need a consistent schedule with engaging lessons and interesting learning materials to show them how fun it can be to learn! I want to jump-start them on the path to success and a love of learning by making the most of each day.
My Project
These healthy snacks will help feed my students to prepare them for a full day of rigorous academic learning and playing with friends. We have snacks mid-afternoon when we have them available and they help my students to focus on instruction and be productive throughout the school day. These snacks can also serve as positive reinforcement, sustenance, and an opportunity to learn about healthy food choices.
For my students who are food insecure at home, learning cannot be their first priority until their dietary needs have been met.
When we get to eat healthy snacks, students are better able to focus and learn. The snacks in this project are a variety of healthy and fun snacks that students can really look forward to. I will use them to meet my students' basic needs and help them get the most out of each valuable moment of their education.
