This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing, marvelous, and challenging on many levels. They come to school excited, eager to experience an exciting lesson. I often refer to them jokingly as “challenging customers” that refuse to accept second best. As I try my best to provide excellent customer service to my clientele, I find that it is never enough to just teach.
It is a journey to discover how best to serve every single one of my students and get them ready for college and for life, and I am enjoying the ride.
Our school is a Title I school in Atlanta where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students are facing many socioeconomic challenges that hinder their academic success. As I observe them interact with one another, enthused about a lesson, I regain my conviction that a future is possible and achievable for all my students.
My Project
Mother Theresa wrote: "If you can't feed one hundred people, then feed just one." I would love to feed all my students always but will be happy to touch a few.
When the stomach is churning in hunger, the mind refuses to focus on learning.
I want to provide snacks (Popcorn, Chips, Nature Valley Bars) for my children when the mid-afternoon hunger kicks in.
I would like to offer the granola bars, chips, and healthy snacks from this project to make the playing field even for all our students. Having students not reaching their learning goals because they are hungry is unthinkable.
The resources from this project will make it possible for my students to stay ready to learn and to meet every learning goals and beyond.
