This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If you are anything like me staring at a blank page and trying to write a sentence let alone a story seemed impossible! Imagine trying to do this task in a language that you are unable to speak fluently. This is a challenge many of my students face each and every day.

I teach 31 Kindergarten students in a high poverty area.

Most of them are not proficient in English. They are enthusiastic scholars who love to learn. Our school is a public school but it is not a neighborhood school. We draw from everywhere in the district. Our common goal is to establish an excellent foundation for lifelong learning, a strong sense of responsibility, and a respect for self and others. We will nurture, guide,and challenge all of our students to aim high, take pride in their achievements, believe in themselves and to reach their maximum potential.

My Project

These activity books will assist the students in sequencing sentences. They do not have to think up their own sentence in a language they are learning, the students can put the words in the correct order and use the correct punctuation at the end. The children will master sentence structure and become better writers. First, they unscramble sentences, practice punctuation and capitalization. Then they begin to create super sentences by editing and expanding sentences using descriptive words. This will not only help their writing but their reading and vocabulary skills as well. The "Pop for Sight Words" game is a super fun and fast way for the students to review and practice the 100 sight words we learn in the Kindergarten year.
