My students have big hearts and love to learn. They work hard and do the best they can with what they have. They don't always have the same opportunities as children from higher economic areas, but they work hard and appreciate what they do have.
My students come from the highest poverty areas and often come to school with no supplies.
Some do not have a lot of educational support at home, or they move from family member to family member, several times, throughout the year. Despite this, they have positive attitudes and inspire me every day.
There are many days when I hear a child say "I didn't get breakfast". The reasons may vary, but the results are the same.
When a child comes to school hungry, it is difficult for them to focus on schoolwork.
I would like to be able to provide a snack to these children to help them move past their hunger and allow them to concentrate in class.
I would also like to be able to provide an incentive to encourage students to do well in class. Candy has been the most successful incentive I have used but I need several bags to get me through the year and I cannot always afford what is needed.
