Help me give my students a full belly to reach their best potential. Fruit snacks, granola bars, cheez-its, and cookies are snacks that are common in most households, but considered a luxury to my students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Teaching in a high Title I school, it is important for me to be intentional with the schedule of our day and our resources within the classroom. One desire that I have is to not only fill my students with knowledge, but fill their bellies as well. The majority of my students wake up on their own to get ready for the day and catch the bus before I wake up, arriving to school extremely early. With the low income of the majority of my students, it is important for me to provide a snack for them. If my students' bellies are not full, they are not going to be focused on any type of instruction. Teaching in a school where 100% of students receive free lunch, it is crucial for me to provide them with a snack break during the day.
My Project
Breakfast and lunch times are relished at my school, leaving some students asking for more. With breakfast and lunch being the only source of nutrition for some students, it is up to me to help them go home less hungry than they came into my classroom in the morning. It is important for my students to understand that I care and want to meet all of their needs on their educational journey, including their need of nutrition.
Snack time allows my babies to recharge and refuel their bodies for the remainder of the day.
With a full belly, minds can reach their potential.
