My Students

There are many reasons why my students are special, but the most important reason is that they are eager to beat the odds of their communities.

My current students are big dreamers.

Regardless of the things that are happening around them, they are excited to continue their education. Our school is nestled in the northern part of our city. My students are considered high risk to join gangs, drugs, and violence, but they are working hard to avoid being a part of negative statistics.

We are a Title I school where 100% of the students receive a free lunch. Every day, we work together to create an opportunity that will help build a strong and productive future for every student.

My Project

Students have a hard time learning when they are cold, tired, and hungry. Our food pantry on campus provides extra food to some of our struggling students and their families to help them get through the school day and on weekends. On the occasions when we know of students living in hotels, we also provide them food as well. Without the free food from our school, many of our students would have limited access to nutritious food until they return to school on Monday.

Our school pantry is supported by school food drives and donations from staff, but that is not enough to keep our pantry stocked: we have a higher need than supply.

Donations tend to be canned vegetables and starches. The items that were chosen as part of this project will give our pantry the boost it needs to keep going strong. This project includes cereal bars, cereal bowls, noodles, microwavable meals, juices and snacks. I already have bags and backpacks to place the items in.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
