My Students

My first graders love to read and write! This group of kiddos comes from a very diverse part of the city of Philadelphia.

My students come from households where there are some, to little, to no resources.

This creates a gap in the achievement and learning within the group of students. The wonderful parents of these children want to provide them with as many resources as you or I would for our own children, but oftentimes find it difficult to locate or purchase these resources.

My Project

My students are currently learning how to solve math problems using multiple strategies. To do this they use a variety of math manipulatives such as cubes, counters, base 10 blocks, coins, etc. It can be very time consuming to pass these materials out and recollect. The pencil boxes would allow the students to house all of their manipulatives individually and keep them at hand for quick access. I am also requesting privacy folders for my students to use when they are working independently. My students can be easily distracted when it is independent work time.

My students will learn organizational and focus skills with privacy folders and math boxes.
