Say what you mean and mean what you say. My students are continuously supported in their journey to know exactly what they want to say, and say it in the way that they intend. The focus of this support zooms into the smallest details of analytical evaluation and extends to the largest abstractions.
I have 128 ninth grade geometry students that are on the path to being able to construct and analyze complex arguments in any arena.
They are highly skilled, and devour material voraciously. It is my desire to highlight their knowledge in a more concrete, physical way.
I also have 32 tenth grade algebra students. These students are in the process of honing the skills they will need to be successful in classes that focus on quantitative analysis. It is my desire to be able to collect data using Plickers (TM) on a regular basis from these students, in order to construct individualized curriculum to further their skill set as efficiently as possible.
This school is a beacon in this community. We are not without our problems, but the staff are working tirelessly in order to lead the way to making the public schools in this city the best in the country.
My Project
Students will be able to project their work using the document camera. This will allow us to evaluate not only the content of student work, but the organizational structure.
They will be able to share work between groups using the personal white boards. This will allow for group cohesion through the use of more complex participant structures than can currently be employed.
They will use card-stock to share their thoughts with me using the Plickers (TM) system (on the iPad) for the purpose of daily data collection. This will allow me to know what they're viewpoint on the material is on a regular basis without losing time on the collection and collation of data.
They will be able to make posters using the colored paper and card-stock. This will allow the exposition of their ideas and artistic talents; in turn creating a classroom where their ideas are central to the very tone of the room!
This project will allow my students to become comfortable sharing their ideas.
This will minimize their fear of being wrong, and maximize their comfort working in a group. This will allow them to feel comfortable creating study groups in high school and college. The best strategy I am aware of to insure success!
Secondly, the focus on student voice will promote the idea that students can in fact build their own knowledge. This is the cornerstone of a liberated mind.
