Focusing on Education Through Sensory Tools and Technology

My students need the Amazon Fire tablets not only for reading but for stress relief and anxiety reduction. The sensory items will better help my students relax and calm down.

My Students

My students are growing up in a low socio-economic area. They come from homes that are low income or no income at all. The state of New Jersey has a 16% special education rate, my district is 27% special education. These students do not have technology at home, computers or another device. They receive free lunch and breakfast every day, so no one goes hungry.

The special needs of these students are so wide and diverse.

They are students will disabilities, ranging from autism to acting out behaviors. These students do not have appropriate outlets for calming down and reducing anxiety. These students deserve anything to help them grow and be successful in the classroom.

My Project

These materials will help these students who have very little become successful in the classroom and out. Most students do not how to access to technology at home or coping tools to calm down or reduce anxiety. These students have disabilities that make reading a daily struggle, they are unable to focus, get worked up and often act out. Tablets will allow for reading to be accessible to them, make it independent and engaging. The sensory objects will be important to deescalating a student who is upset, acting out. Autistic students can benefit from the sensory objects when feeling overwhelmed. The struggles they face every day will decrease with the help of these objects. They will be able to use their own mode of learning to enhance their skills.

These students already have so many barriers to overcome, education should not be one.

It should lift them up and help them grow.

They will learn to cope with anxiety, stress, and anger through the sensory tools. Being the best they can be starts with supplying them with the tools to be great!
