The first was being able to get new headphones for our Chromebooks. My first graders use their computers almost everyday, so having extra headphones on-hand to replace ones that break is important. We use the headphones to practice math facts and reading. Students also enjoy listening to stories on-line being read to them.\r\n The second item this donation bought was animal toys to go along with our reading units. This year we we are learning about dinosaurs and different animal habitats. The mini animal toys give us a way to look at the animals and the students enjoy playing with them. The kit included animals from the ocean and land, which we learn about in not only our reading program, but also in Science.\r\n The third, and last item, involved reading games and materials that we use for our small groups and center time activities. They started going to good use before the last school year ever ended. \r\n\r\nTo begin, the NIX hair lice kits have helped families already who are struggling to get the supplies they need to treat their child's hair properly. 2 families were identified so far that could use the kits this year. The parents were so thankful for the help. It allowed me to help educate the parent of the proper process for ridding of lice. \r\n\r\nThe next part of my donations that have been and will continue to be impactful are the deodorants. After teaching my puberty/hygiene lessons to the 5th grades students along with the gym teacher, we will be giving students students small zipper bags where they can store their deodorant, donated brushes, and pads for the girls. \r\n\r\nThe soap and bath puffs that were donated will be accessible to any student in need. They received lessons from me last year about proper skin care and the impact it has on overall health. Many of our students come from low income families and often are embarrassed about this issue. All students know they can come to me for soap, deodorant to help them feel better.
