With a classroom rug my students will have a richer environment to learn. It is optimal for students to have both their desks and a rug to sit at throughout the day. Students can spread out during independent reading, work on group projects, and have rug spots to sit at during mini-lessons and whole group instruction. Students are often better able to concentrate when sitting at the rug for read alouds, whole group Language Arts, and Writing Workshop. Students are also able to participate in Responsive Classroom activities using a large rug. A rug also offers alternative seating arrangements for students who otherwise would not have that opportunity. A classroom rug creates more space to discover, community build, play and share.
