Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful children who come to school each morning with a passion to learn. They come from a variety of backgrounds and have diverse life experiences. They are incredibly supportive of these differences and show respect and tolerance among each other.
My students are in charge of their learning and use a variety of special tools and strategies in order to do so.
Often, they will reflect on their learning and question these tools in relation to how it effected their method. One way to help support my students is keeping a tidy classroom that is visually pleasing and conducive to learning.
My Project
The only natural lighting we have from our classroom comes from two small windows. Even with the two windows open, there is not enough light to see our work at our tables especially on the opposite side of the room. Floor lamps will add a home-like feel since we spend 6 hours in our room per day.
Studies show that lighting can effect students' productivity in the classroom including test scores and focus.
We will use the floor lights when practicing mindfulness in the classroom. Using light covers can tone down the brightness of the florescent lighting giving the classroom a softer feel.
Wobble stools allow those with an excess of energy to move while also being able to focus on the academic instruction given in the classroom. I have 2 wobble stools in my classroom that I borrowed from other teachers. They have made a world of difference for children who use it. When I asked the children what I could do to help them be the best learner they can be, several of my students told me they needed a wobble stool.
