Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with intelligent, enthusiastic students who have been handed difficult journeys in their eight years of life. Knowing this I try and create an empowering atmosphere giving them the best opportunity for success and believing in themselves.
Working with a diverse group makes our community stronger, but also means I need to be attentive to their needs.
My fantastic fourth graders are kind and eager to learn but it's not always easy. On average 20% of my classroom is dealing with a sensory issues, 15% are English Language Leaners and all are living in a high poverty neighborhood. These students deserve the best education and environment to learn. This is my daily goal.
My Project
I teach the literacy block to all the fourth graders at my school. I push them to read diverse literature and analyze the meaning and author’s purpose. This leads way to communicating their ideas more effectively through writing, and projects. I am constantly trying to meet my diverse students’ needs giving choices to help them stay engaged and focused.
Everyone learns differently and I am trying to provide more positive opportunities in my classroom with these chairs.
My hopes are these positive thoughts can carry with them through life.
Having active chairs in my classroom will strengthen the community I build with my students by creating agreements on how we use them. I also feel these chairs will help my students in positives ways to stay engaged in all different activities even if they have the need to move. By giving them opportunities to feel positive about their learning will strengthen their self-belief.
