My Students

My students are excited, ambitious, and curious about the world around them. They always have a question to ask or a story to tell. My students are a diverse group of eager kindergarteners: ethnically, culturally, economically, and academically. I am a teacher at an International Baccalaureate school where students are exposed to a second language, art, music, gardening, technology, and character studies.

Did you love kindergarten?

Well my students do. They are excited and ready to learn, but as you know, kindergarteners also have short attention spans. I want to give my students some flexible seating outside to help them focus throughout the day.

My Project

This year I have created a cozy space with flexible seating inside my classroom for kindergarten students to learn to read and write. Now I want to extend my learning space to the area outside where there is shade and wonderful weather. I have a small carpet and a great big umbrella, but now my students now need some soft spots to sit so they can do their smart learning. My students will be able work independently, in partnerships, and in small groups. The wobble seats will allow the students to wiggle a little and help them focus while they work. The wooden benches will allow my students to sit side by side and read together. The soft cushions will be a great place to sit and talk while working on their kindergarten learning.
