Help me give my students puzzle mat foam tiles to cover the hard tile in our basement gym, and a variety of martial arts equipment to firmly establish our school's new martial arts program.
Our school serves a great group of kids with the goal of getting each one to graduate high school and succeed in their world beyond.
All of our students transferred to our school from other high schools for various reasons.
Some kids struggled academically in their previous schools. Others faced personal health or emotional challenges that led them to fall behind. Most of our students needed a fresh start in a different environment. Fortunately these kids now attend a school with a very supportive community. At our school, students work at their own pace, receive heaps of individualized support, and celebrate one another's accomplishments. For many it's a dream come true to find a calm, safe place where they can concentrate on graduating from high school.
My Project
We just started a new martial arts program at our school. Downstairs in our school's basement gym, much of the floor is covered in hard tile. This hasn't been an issue until recently, but now that our students will practice movements (such as kicks) that will inevitably result in some falls, we need to get the floor covered in foam tiles.
These foam tiles will help protect our students bodies and joints.
In addition to the foam tiles, this project seeks a variety of martial arts equipment - such as kick pads, muay thai pads, and focus mitts - that will enable students to safely work on drill in pairs.
