I am a fourth grade teacher at a Title I school in Virginia. We are a Pre-K through the 8th grade building. Nearly 900 students call our school their home. This year, instead of switching classes, I have the pleasure of having one class of 24 students all day. This is a true pleasure as I really get to know the students better the more time I spend with them. Within the 24, students are receiving special education services, and there are English language learners, French students, and gifted learners.
For many of our students, school is more than just a place to learn.
It is also a source of consistency and love. Some of our students have been through more in their young lives than most adults.
Norfolk is home to the largest naval base in the world. Many of our families are part of the military which means that many of our students have to deal with one or even both of their parents being on deployment for long periods of time.
I hope to provide the students with a safe and fun place to learn!
My Project
I would love to provide a fun and engaging way for my kiddos to have a chance to enjoy their time outside with their peers. As we have navigated our way back to in-class learning, my kiddos feel closer together more than ever. As excited as they were to come back, it is so more different than "their normal" with the social distancing and Covid fears.
What better way to spend a spring day, than to have our hearts, bodies and minds overflowing with happiness!
The spring kite flying day will be all-inclusive: science ; math ; language arts; music; art; P.E.; and finally, PURE FUN!
Here's to hoping we can bring around a good wind change for 2022, along with lifelong memories and learning opportunities for our students! Thank you for thinking of us and we appreciate you!
