My Students

Have you ever gone fishing, leaving the city and finding beauty and stillness in the quiet surroundings of nature? Remember casting the fish line, handling the slimy fish, how exciting! Appreciating nature and experiencing all its creatures can be brought to our classrooms with the right materials.

My students live in a busy city, and attend an urban school system located in the state of Massachusetts.

Nature and its wonderful panoramas can be made possible through the process of art making. My students may never go fishing or even handle a real fish, examine its characteristics and be one with nature. These materials will mimic the experience and steps in fishing. The fish forms feel and look like the real thing! It will become a big fish story for years to come. Learning will become more exciting. The tactile, slimy quality will help my student's scientific inquiry, and a wonderful opportunity in art. The patterns and linear details lend themselves to the intricate details that will be demonstrated through the art of printmaking. It is up to us educators to help inspire and bring rich experiences to the classroom. My students are enthusiastic, intelligent and naturally curios. They deserve opportunities even if classroom replicated in the classroom for their future success.

My Project

The lesson will start with a discussion about going fishing and how nature is a great supply in natural resources and experiences. Students will be given a small fishing pole and then they will cast their line and fish for a small piece of paper that will include the name of a fish. Inspiration and excitement begins with this step. Then, they will be given these rubber fish forms to examine and begin to scientifically explore its patterns, and create scientific illustrations. These materials will increase my student's enthusiasm and appreciation for nature and art creation. The scientific process of curiosity and inquiry can be enhanced when students have the right materials available. It is my belief that a student's ability to succeed should not depend on ones privileges and social-economic status. My diverse students are diverse in personalities and intelligent in many levels. They deserves equal opportunities in education and inspiring experiences.

Meaningful life and educational experiences can be made possible, through wonderful programs.

As an art teacher, I want my students to appreciate life, its connections and their environment. Becoming more aware of their surroundings, and bringing these experiences into the form of art making is a wonderful gift. Please help my students make connections between art, life and science. Help bridge the gap and give them beneficial educational experiences.
