Fluency With a Beat

Help me give my students a Karaoke machine and CD's to increase their fluency.

My Students

I have the greatest students. They are friends with everyone in my class and never mind who I pair them with. They love to learn and always give their best effort. I allow redo's in my class when a student takes a math test, so they try their best the first time. If they miss any, they always want to go back and find their mistakes. I never tell them which ones they missed, they rework their problems and celebrate as they find them.

My students cheer for one another when a child has a success either inside the classroom or outside.

I love to support them in their outside activities, sports, ice skating, plays, recitals, and I always film them. The next day I show the rest of the class some of the pictures and video that I took as they played or performed. My class always applauds for them. They are wonderful to encourage each other.

My Project

I chose a Karaoke machine and CD's to help my students to increase their fluency in an upbeat and entertaining way. As students read the words on the Karaoke machine, they must pace themselves to keep up with the music. The CD's and the words on the screen of the Karaoke machine will encourage them to speak rhythmically.

I'm always telling my students that they must read as quickly as they speak.

This will help them recognize that timing in speaking or singing is important. It will also provide entertainment while they learn which will give them a desire to continue practicing.
