My Students

These early learners are filled with curiosity and an eagerness to explore and find out more about the world in which they live. The majority of these students have a parent (or two!) serving in the military. They come from diverse backgrounds with varied early life experiences and arrive at school each morning excited about what the day has in store for them.

Our school is working hard to provide real-world learning experiences that empower our students to make positive life choices.

It is important that our students have the opportunities and resources needed to support this effort. Our goal is to connect the learning that takes place at school to everyday activities.

My Project

Early learners are fascinated with all things science related. This is especially true when it comes to living things. My students love spending time in our school garden, watching things grow, and eating what is harvested. Their learning experience is limited not by their desire but by the short growing season in western Washington. Two months into the school year and these eager first graders are excited about observing plants as they progress through their life cycle and discovering how to provide them with what they need to grow and thrive.

Winter is coming, but that doesn't mean the learning must end!

Using AeroGarden growing systems, seed pods, and specially designed activities, these young gardeners can continue to deepen their knowledge of various plants as they grow them indoors. No matter how wet and gray the day is outside, they can make observations and develop problem-solving skills as they care for flowers, herbs, and salad ingredients throughout the growth process. As they harvest their crops, my students will learn how delicious things taste when you have grown them yourself!
