Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of 3 to 5 year olds with a range of mild to severe disabilities. Our school is located in a low-income/high poverty school, where my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
Every experience is created thoughtfully and intentionally. My students are always excited to learn and participate in classroom activities especially when hands-on. They are always excited when using tools or materials and demonstrate pride in their work and achievements.
My Project
Floor time is a critical component and center in our classroom. Students engage in critical thinking and Problem Solving, visual discrimination, concentration/attention span, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, spatial awareness, shapes, colors, patterns, memory, animals, and much more.
Floor time activities will increase social development, cognitive development, math skills, language skills, literacy skills, and fine-motor development.
Our classroom will use the floor time puzzles and trains set to engage with others in play and conversations. These rich materials will serve as a preferred student-led activity during free choice play. Our class demonstrates excitement and interest in trains with some conversations about trains. Providing a class set to utilize will promote meaningful play, conversations, and learning.
