This is my second year as a teacher for a Kindergarten through second grade self-contained class with special education students. My students have a variety of disabilities and challenges that interfere with their education. As a result, the students are part of a self-contained special education classroom known as CARES.
Our students learn about the world around them by participating in hands-on learning activities.
Building, creating, and trying out new learning is how ideas stick! Although learning is a challenge for our students, these little learners are excited to learn new things!
My Project
I teach students with multiple disabilities, including some students that have physical disabilities. For these students, getting into typical table level chairs can be difficult. I am so excited that Lakeshore has introduced this floor level table and chair set, and that they are offering matching donations while funds remain to help teachers get these amazing pieces of furniture.
For my students who struggle to sit at the table, having this table set on the floor gives them an alternative seating option.
Students who have more choice in where they sit learn better. How excited will students be to sit at this amazing table and complete work, play with toys, complete puzzles, or do art projects? And the large size of the table allows several students to sit together and work together. Flexible seating is all the rage in classrooms around the country, and I am happy to begin a flexible seating plan in my class as well.
