Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am Ms. Elizabeth Gonzales and last year I started an annual deep-sea fishing trip with my Advanced Culinary students.
This trip was such a success last year and the kids enjoyed themselves. Some of them experienced the ocean for the first time. It makes me so happy to give my students the opportunity to do something they may never have done with their family or on their own. The goal is to give them a hands-on excursion involving hospitality and tourism, cooking, as well as life skills and responsibilities.
Fundraising is very important for this trip. Most students can't afford to pay 300 to 400 dollars to make a trip like this. I try to make it affordable by making as much money as I can during the year to make this happen for under 100 dollars. I need a generator to plug in our snow cone machine anywhere on campus. The popcorn machine will be used to make larger amounts of popcorn to sell to larger crowds. Our small machine only makes 10 servings at a time. The ice chest is also for both fundraising and the trip we only have a small one. The tent is for the trip, we will be on a beach with no cabanas we must provide our own shade.
My students work hard all year long catering events for other school organizations and competing in events. They dedicate a lot of time to the program and I like to reward them. Your generosity would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
