My students need a Flip Video Ultra Camcorder to help them document real-life examples of class topics to help student motivation and to use instead of typical paper-pencil assessments.

My Students

How often do you use technology? Imagine being in 3rd grade and never holding a camera or never using technology at home. It's my job, I believe, to show these 3rd graders that technology can be motivational, exciting and that they deserve to use these tools to help further their education.

My 25 students come from pretty rough homes and trailers in rural, North Carolina.

Many times they receive their only decent meal of the day at school. This allows for little to no technology available to them at home. I would love to introduce them to technology and how it can be used. By showing them that people care about their education, I know their motivation will increase vastly!

My Project

I recently attended a Technology Workshop where all things technology were introduced to the teachers at my school. I left the workshop empowered and excited to use technology every day with my students. Then, the reality set in...there was only one flip cam in the whole school ( over 35 classrooms) for all the teachers to share. I would love to use the flip cam because I know the students would be so excited to show me what they have learned by finding real life examples of it in action. For example, rather than circling the right angle on a test, they can find a right angle in the classroom and document it with the flip cam. The excitement that develops when technology is introduced is amazing and I can't wait to see the smiles on the 25 faces of my students when the flip cam is shown to them!

Using this small piece of technology will make such a difference to 25, 3rd graders.

Their excitement level will increase as well as their time on task! These students will ask to use the flip cam to document their learning, throughout the day when they finish work early because they want to use technology and find real-life examples of their learning.
