My Students

Our school is an academically-focused public high school in a large urban district. Seventy percent of our students receive lunch assistance, and all of our students complete the requirements for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. When it comes to standardized tests, our students outpace their peers (both in the district and across the state) by a large margin, but it's our school culture that sets us apart. As IB learners, our students strive to be inquirers, knowledgeable, communicators, caring, risk-takers, principled, open-minded, balanced, reflective, and thinkers. They are hard-working, caring kids who believe in themselves, each other, and their school.

My Project

My students are currently seated at mismatched tables that are several decades old. By upgrading these tables to FUNctional whiteboards, not only will it boost the aesthetic of my classroom, but will also provide students with a FUNctional place to practice spelling, sentence construction, and mapping out their thoughts. The Rustoleum kits will be used to convert old tabletops into whiteboards. The whiteboard paper will be used on the few tables I have that aren't paintable but will ensure all students have access to whiteboard areas for quick response to questioning, spelling and vocabulary practice, and general brainstorming.
