My Students

Do you remember the PBS classic "Reading Rainbow?" In the spirit of that great reading motivator, my little second grade reading stars are ready to sparkle as they create their own versions of video book recommendations for play in other classrooms!

I teach eager to learn little second graders.

About 25% live in poverty in our rural western Washington community. My students are working hard to master the skills that allow them to read words. What I hope for each of them this year is falling in love with reading, discovering personal favorites, and searching out books by favorite authors.

My Project

With a small Flip Camera, my students can choose and then practice reading their favorite books with fluency and expression. When they are ready tell all about their favorites, the Flip Camera will make it easy to capture the little stars reading passages and showing pictures in their own video versions of "Reading Rainbow." These students will become reading celebrities in their own right when the video is shown to classmates and younger students.

With your generous help, my students will practice reading and reading their favorite stories until they are ready to star in their own book choice video!

This project has the potential to encourage fun, fluent reading practice in our class and to give boys and girls a venue for discussing and showcasing their own preferred literature.
