My Students

Do you remember what it was like to sit through an Algebra class where you dreaded the daily grind of thirty plus homework problems? Most of my students come to me hating math because of their prior experience in many math classes. I create projects that engage students and make them successful.

My students are from low-income families who don't have a great deal of technology at home.

This makes them eager to try anything that relates to technology. Most of my students do try hard in my math class. They know that I care a great deal for them, as a result they work for me. These students attend a public junior high school. All of the teachers and staff work hard to provide a quality education for their students. Most of our students take advantage of the wonderful teaching that occurs in our junior high.

My Project

These video cameras have great potential for changing students lives. I am currently taking a class on photo shop elements and premier editing software and marvel at the wonderful student projects they have shown us. As I was watching the different student projects, I couldn't help but think what a confidence builder it must be for students to be able to tell a story with pictures or video. I have been borrowing cameras in my math class to capture speed or distance over time videos. Students that have done very little through the course of the year, jumped all over this assignment. Every video that was turned in was creative, mathematical and fun to watch. It was fun to see kids that rarely work do something. It was also fun to see the kids that always work hard get to do a fun project. Students learn the relationship between the speed or distance of an object over time. They also learn how a graph can tell a story, or in this case the graph shows what happened in the video.

Having cameras to use in my math class will totally enhance my classroom.

I already have a good relationship with my students. Cameras in the class will give me another hook to keep motivating students to stay in school and have some fun with mathematics. The speed/time videos are extremely fun and engaging. These cameras empowers students to be creative and gives them a chance to be successful in mathematics.
