I am a teacher in a low-income high poverty school district. My students are faced with several obstacles both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many obstacles they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, smart, and very eager to learn.
They like to move, they love to read, and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
Students are focusing on having meaningful conversations to enhance their learning experiences. It is proven that open dialogue among students is key to a deeper understanding of content. One of the best parts of teaching is witnessing a struggling student have an a-ha moment through deep conversation with a peer.
My students need flexible seating options to make meaningful conversations and learning opportunities more accessible.
My students want to learn and grow and converse with their peers, but it is not always possible due to the layout of our classroom. Lap desks and flexible seating will allow my students to move freely around the room and sit comfortably while conversing and working with their peers.
By receiving these flexible lap desks it will not just impact one student's life but more than 40 students. Something important to consider is that most of these materials are very durable and can last for a very long time. So the number of students enjoying these resources could be exponential.
