My Students

My kids are incredible! They love a challenge, work hard on anything I throw at them and are so kind and helpful to each other. If someone can’t find their crayon another is right there giving them theirs. So many of them are faithful to read at home and bring their books back each day. Sending books home is a little risky in our low income school but most take great care to bring them back. I am so proud of this class for completing their work. I’m anticipating my new class of first graders this year This will be my third year back into teaching after 7 years off to stay home with my own babies. One thing I’ve noticed with last year's class is that they were very wiggly! Traditional seating didn’t work for them So I tried to improvise some flexible seating with cushions. This year I hope to expand on the idea since the cushions are so dirty now.

My Project

This past year my class was a wiggly group. Some falling out of their chairs and leaning them back dangerously. I bought kitchen chair cushions for them and that gave them some options to find a more comfortable spot to learn in. Those are now dirty and falling apart. These new options I’m asking for are more durable and a wider variety for first graders to use. I’m hoping it helps those wiggly boys and girls to focus better on their learning. My goal is that if one seat is not working for a child then another option will work.
