Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We are a Title 1 school in a rural community, all of our students receiving free lunch. We are fully inclusive and all of my students work together to help each other succeed.
They work hard using tools they've learned in the classroom to solve problems and achieve success.
They are eager to learn and participate.
Every day our kids face incredible challenges at home with which most adults do not contend, yet they come to school eager to learn and work in the classroom.
My Project
It can be hard for children to sit still which can make it difficult for students to stay on task. Having flexible seating in my fifth grade class will not only give them a comfier place to sit, but it will also keep them engaged and maximize their learning daily during a short period of time.
Many students respond well to using exercise balls (yoga balls) because they offer a range of motion while allowing a student to stay seated and focused.
The yoga balls will allow students in their small group to stay on task and focus during their individualized intervention time. The stools will give students the ability to switch between sitting and standing while working on their writing.
