Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Kindergarten students range in age from 4 years old to 6 years old.
My students are eager to learn, kind hearted, and in need of love.
Many of my students live with a single parent, relatives, or foster families. They are often times struggling to cope with past or ongoing trauma. The neighborhood is close knit, while at the same time populated with gangs, drugs, and crime. School is our students’ safe place and I try to make my classroom their home.
Our school is a Title I school, with a majority of our students needing Free and Reduced Lunch assistance. My classroom is made up of students of mixed ethnicity, gender, academic ability, physical and emotional ability, as well as speaking multiple languages.
My Project
Flexible seating in my kindergarten classroom means student-centered learning through collaboration, allowing students choice in how and where they learn best by creating a better space for them to learn in.
The soft seating options will create a comfortable space where students can focus on learning.
A lowered table along with the alternative seating will give students options in where and how they learn in the classroom.
This Flex-space furniture gives my students a collaborative space for learning. Collaborative learning improves student achievement. Students learn better when they can move, sit, or stand while working, whether it is writing, reading, or working with other students!
