My Students

My 1st grade classroom is filled with 22 students who love to learn and move! We spend our days working hard with a special focus on becoming more independent and taking charge of our learning. Encouraging my students to choose where and how they learn best is a top priority for me. With this project I hope to expand the students' options for seating within my room so that can feel comfortable while learning. I think both adults and children alike can agree that learning comes easier when you are most comfortable!

My Project

Research shows that movement is key to internalizing new information, especially in young children. One of the most important things I can do for my students is giving them the chance to move and wiggle. I can do this by offering students flexible seating! With the use of flexible seating, students become more actively engaged in what they're learning.

Currently, in my classroom, I have wiggle stools and yoga balls available for my students, but I would love to offer them another choice.
