Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Each day I teach English Language Arts to 60 third grade students. My students are from inner city Pittsburgh. The majority of the day is spent learning in small groups frequently moving to different locations of the classroom, with many hands on learning activities.

I love the constant eagerness that my students display to learn and most of all their resiliency.

My students come from one of the most violent neighborhoods in the city. Many of my students endure more trauma than any child should have to. To a lot of the students our classroom is like a "home" to them and their safe space.

My Project

My students come to school each day full of energy and ready to learn! In order to be fully engaged in learning they need to be comfortable! They get tired of sitting in hard chairs all day. Then often get very restless and fidgety. This flexible seating would give them a variety of options and allow them to move around while learning.

Some of the seating options that will be provided are wobble stools, exercise balls, and bean bag cushions.

The students are often learning and working in small groups. These seating options would give them the chance to move around the classroom and stay physically active.

This project would greatly help my students stay engaged and be comfortable while doing so! I am so excited to have a flexible seating classroom!
