My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
My students are gifted elementary students.
They are from the 8 local elementary schools in our system in Alabama. Gifted Education receives very little funding in the state of Alabama. None of the funding goes to the classroom. It goes to salaries.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
By having alternative seating in the classroom students are free to make a choice of which seating arrangement is best for their learning. By giving them a choice I am helping them begin to learn how to make appropriate choices to make them more successful in the classroom. This also helps reduce the amount of behavior problems that can happen in the classroom. By having alternative seating students have their own space to spread out and have room to work. Students can choose to sit on the sofa and use a lap desk, or they might prefer to pile up in a bean bag chair. The coffee table will be a great place to collaborate with those sitting on the sofa. Having alternative seating also helps with engagement. By having higher engagement students will be more successful.
