My 23 first graders are smart, sweet, hard-working, unique, and WIGGLY! They love any kind of active engagement where they are able to get up and move as they learn/work. They work hard because they are expected to and are proud of the work they do, as they should be. They love engaging in hands-on activities, using technology, and "teaching" their classmates.
Richmond is a Title 1 school and serves a very wide variety of students who come to school knowing that it's a safe and positive place to learn.
Our school provides an incredible learning environment for students and is filled with great teachers and even better students.
My Project
Sitting on the carpet in a "Criss-Cross-Applesauce" position for long periods of time can be difficult, especially for 6 and 7-year-olds. They need to be able to move and sit comfortably so that their attention and focus is on the skill/concept they are learning rather than how uncomfortable they are. I want to give my kids options and allow them to choose what to sit on during whole group time.
I would love for my students to have a variety of options to make the most of our whole group time together.
Being comfortable would allow them to put all of their energy into learning and participating in the lessons and activities we do as a class.
